Jenny Owens - New Zealand Camp Finished

I am just sitting here in the cafe waiting for my lift to Christchurch and I’m absolutely shattered!! Physically I think I’m ok, just feeling like I need a week of sleep!

Besides that, we had a fantastic camp here in NZ, couldn’t have asked for more :-)

Even though NZ is lacking snow, we had perfect weather EVERY single day which is unheard of in NZ and certainly not what I’ve experience in all my years of coming here!

I got a lot out of it and should be able to build on it back home next week with some more training back with the team.

SG, GS and SL training definitely put me out of my comfort zone. Trusting myself to do what you want in an alpine course, like I used to, is definitely hard when out of practise! I certainly don’t ski how I used to and on top of that, alpine skiing has changed over the past 10 years so learning that has also been tough!

My body had a little trouble troubles keeping up, a strained hamstring and a (what alpiners call) GS/SL back this past week, but nothing that doesn’t harden you up!

I certainly improved my skiing every day but still very inconsistent and a brain strain each run!!

International Racer and Mount Hotham Race Squad run by Jeff Books is definitely one of the best development alpine teams in the world and it was great to be able to join them. Great training with a lot of laughs!

I fly out in the morning back to Melbourne, straight up to Mt Buller and then Perisher for the SSA (Ski & Snowboard Australia) Futures Ski Cross Camps which is always a lot of fun and great to see the up and coming potential.

After that, it’s back into training at Perisher, then down to Hotham for the ANC Alpine and Ski Cross comps.

I’ll be back in touch after the SSA Futures camps with an update and some cool pics!
