What a busy few weeks it has been for me! I have just had a week training in Perisher and Thredbo resorts and also had a few competitions!
It started with two GS races- the Australian National Championships in Thredbo Monday and Tuesday. I used this as an opportunity to get into ‘race mode’ and to start practicing my race preparation and mental preparation plans. I didn’t have much success in the skiing, but learned some new things about myself as an athlete and look forward to putting them to the test at Mt Hotham next week.
After my alpine comeback, I had a 6.5 hour session with the famous Andy Burford from Jindabyne Sports to fit and adjust my new ski boots. I seem to spend most of my time in these, so having a perfect fit boot is vital!
I then went back to Canberra for a night to sit in the recovery pool at the AIS to help my muscles prepare for a busy few days.
On Saturday I raced in one of my favorite events- the Thredbo Top to Bottom Downhill. It is a crazy race, with a ‘Le Mans’ running style start u a 50m hill, you then put on your skis and ski the Downhill course on the Supertrail. It is so exciting- This was my 5th Top to Bottom race and also my 5th Win! My team mates Anton also was victorious, with Scott in 4th and Katya in 2nd.
I then represented Southern Alps Ski Club in the Thredbo Senior Interclub Championships. It is a chance for all the ski clubs to get together and ski, with prizes for fastest skiers, handicaps for age and the most important- Over all Best Ski Club. Well done to Southern Alps on this amazing day!
To top off what has already been a great week- today as the Blue Cow Cup Ski Cross event. 110 competitors aged between 8 and 21 raced head to head in Perisher for the Blue Cow Cup. It was so fantastic to see so many familiar young faces and spend time with the kids who make skiing so fun. A big congratulations to all the competitors!
I am off to Hotham on Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming Australian and New Zealand Cup Ski Cross events on the 18th and 19th… Stay tuned!
